Barring late developments, there will be three contested races on local voters’ ballots in May, one each for the City of Kilgore, Kilgore ISD and Kilgore College. Standard filing for the Spring 2019 election closed at 5 p.m. Friday. Write-in candidates can submit paperwork as late as Tuesday but will not appear on the ballot. In one Special Election – Place 3 on Kilgore City Council – applicants have until March 4 to sign-up. more
More than 300 people put their signature to Sabine Fire Department’s effort to add a penny-and-a-half to sales tax within Emergency Services District No. 2. From those, Gregg County has verified 273 are registered voters within the Liberty City-centered fire district, more than the 240 needed to put the measure on the ballot in May – five percent of voters in an affected zone must agree to take the question to the polls. more
Rahab’s Retreat and Ranch recently celebrated their second anniversary and founder Teresa Richenberger told Kilgore Lions Club Thursday about progress the service has made. “We just hit our two-year mark of being open,” Richenberger said. “We have sustained ourselves without any help or assistance from the state. We now run about $30,000 a month and God has met us every step of the way.” more

Undeterred by frigid weather, a group of high schoolers from Kilgore and Sabine dove head-first into the challenges of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award this month. Heading out on the weekend excursion, Rotarian Tom Sartor said, the teens are usually pretty quiet, unsure of what lies ahead. “Coming back, they talk all the way,” swapping stories about the experience. more
