Kilgore Chamber of Commerce is ready to officially put the Stars & Scars Mud Run on the map, and they’re revamping efforts to spread the word about the June 8 challenge. It’s the fourth year the chamber’s invited hardcore racers to Rabbit Creek ATV Park, and organizers say they’re looking outside the immediate area to ramp up the competition. more

Kilgore College students can now apply for the Cyber FastTrack program, part of an innovative cybersecurity training partnership with the SANS Institute and the state of Texas. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced the partnership in February. Cyber FastTrack will allow any college student to progress through cybersecurity training with up to up to $2.5 million awarded in college scholarships through the program. more
LaKesha Hall, Kilgore Boys and Girls Club unit director, was program speaker for the April meeting of Civic Garden Club recently. Ms. Hall has been with the program for nine years. She explained the after-school program began in 2008 in Rusk County. The children are bused from school, given a snack, and some down time before being helped with homework (called "Power Hour.) They encourage community service and try to show how they can give back as they grow older. Volunteers help by sharing ways to grow vegetables, practice good hygiene; and instill self-esteem and confidence. Following her talk, the club presented Hall with two Easter Baskets for this year's style show winners. more
Kilgore Police Department reported the following arrests from April 19-25. FRIDAY, APRIL 19 Celeste Reshay Willis, 24, of Kilgore, was arrested on a charge of interfering with public duties. Cody Wayne Willis, 23, of Kilgore, was arrested on a charge of evading arrest or detention. more
President, Nita Collier opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Billy Brown gave the prayer for the meeting and the meal. Ray Drost opened the Easter festivities by singing, You and Me Jesus. Merlean Thompson, Secretary, read the minutes from the last meeting. No corrections, approved as read. Gloria Kennedy, Treasurer, gave the treasury report. It was approved for audit. more
Election Day is quickly approaching and a seat on the Kilgore ISD school board is up for grabs. Two candidates, Dana Sneed and Jason Smith, are campaigning for the Position 7 seat. Sneed was an educator for 30 years and spent much of that time teaching in Kilgore. more
Businesses in 14 East Texas counties may soon get better broadband internet access with the help of a grant to create a regional broadband infrastructure plan. On Wednesday, April 17, the East Texas Council of Governments hosted a press conference to announce they had received a grant from the US Economic Development Administration. more
