The road team on any given night in the always-tough Region XIV Conference is usually not an enviable position in which to be. Both Kilgore College teams were on the road Wednesday, with different results. The Rangers lost , 60-50, at Trinity Valley, and the Lady Rangers left Paris with an 89-58 win, their third straight. The men play a 4 p.m. game today at Bossier Parish. The Lady Rangers are home, hosting TVCC at 2 p.m. more
Through three games, Kilgore High School softball is off to a fairly good start, especially considering their competition. KHS started its season Thursday in a 16-team tournament in Carthage, and through Friday, the Lady ‘Dogs are 2-1, with a season-opening, 17-2 rout of Tatum, a 10-0 loss Carthage, and a 6-3 win over Marshall. more
It wasn’t how they wanted to finish the season – winning would’ve been much more preferable – but the Kilgore High School boys basketball team is about to join the school’s girls in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A playoffs. The Bulldogs lost their final regular season game Tuesday night at home, a 51-49 loss to a Henderson team that Kilgore had beaten earlier this year. more
Basketball success is certainly nothing new in Liberty City – Sabine has had several good teams, boys and girls, over the years. But cutting down the nets this year was pretty special for coach Colby Carr and the Cardinals. more
It’s been said it’s good to be the king. It’s also apparently pretty good to be the queen. Both Kilgore High School soccer programs – girls and boys – opened their respective District 16-4A schedules here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium with wins over Sabine on Tuesday night. Kilgore’s teams have won district championships in both so often the last decade, it’s difficult to remember when a KHS team didn’t hoist the crown. more
SOFTBALL Kilgore College home today at noon vs. McLennan Rain toyed a little with Kilgore College’s early-season softball schedule last week, forcing the cancelation of a pair of games at Texas College. But the Rangers were to be swinging again today, this time at home at the Ballpark at KC Commons, a doubleheader against McLennan starting at noon. KC split with McLennan the first week of the season and the Rangers, coached by Leslie Messina, are 1-1. After today, they’re scheduled to play at Grayson County College in Denison on Wednesday, a doubleheader starting at 1, and then at Weatherford next Saturday, also a doubleheader and also starting at 1. more
A doubleheader where both Kilgore College basketball teams celebrate wins isn’t rare, but this time of year – in the thick of the Region XIV Conference race – it does add a little extra dose of happiness. KC’s Lady Rangers thrashed visiting Panola College, 73-56, on Saturday afternoon, and then the Rangers made quite a statement, taking down Panola, 69-67 – KC’s last three have been decided by a total of six points. more

Bullard might have won District 16-4A’s girls basketball title, but no one in the district is playing better right now than the Kilgore Lady Bulldogs, who won a first-round playoff game Monday night for their first postseason playoff win since 2014. Coach Shun McGill, in her first season as head coach, guided the Lady ‘Dogs past Liberty-Eylau, 47-43, at the campus of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall on Monday night. more
After the interview process and a unanimous approval, the West Rusk High School athletic department has its new director – and the Raiders have a new head football coach. West Rusk’s board selected Nick Hamilton, who was already on staff at the school and an assistant to former coach and AD John Frazier, as the new leader of the school’s athletic programs and the 13th head coach in WR’s football history, dating back to 1965. West Rusk ISD Superintendent Lawrence Coleman enthusiastically talked with the News Herald on Tuesday. more
