Kilgore College’s annual Texas-Sized Fundraiser – to raise money for the college’s athletic department – is set for Saturday, April 27, at the Longview Exhibit Building at the Longview Fairgrounds. It’ll start at 6 p.m. It’s the second annual event; last year’s was quite successful, benefitting all KC athletes (football, basketball, and softball). more
FISHING KCKL Big Bass tourney this weekend Cedar Creek Lake will be the site of this year’s 36th annual KCKL Big Bass Tournament this Saturday and Sunday. The tournament offers 120 cash prizes for bass weighed each hour and to the winners in the overall final standings. There are door prizes to be won at 3 p.m. daily. more
They’ve had a good season so far – a very good season – but not everything for the Kilgore High School softball team will be sunshine and rainbows. The Lady Bulldogs had won five of their last six prior to Friday’s home game against Bullard, but the visiting Lady Panthers were not accommodating guests, taking an early lead and hanging on to it through a Kilgore comeback, ultimately winning, 6-3. more
Cameron Jackson is fast. And Kilgore got two wins out of Jackson at the Tommy Miller Relays last weekend at Hallsville. Jackson won the 100 meter dash, in 10.72 seconds, then won the 200, in 21.77 seconds. Also getting a win for the KHS boys in the Miller Relays was Calvin Woodside, who won the shot put with a best of 49 feet, 9 inches. more
If it seems there’s an underlying theme for each one of the four soccer programs in the News Herald’s coverage area that made the University Interscholastic League’s soccer playoffs, that’s because there is. For the Kilgore Bulldogs, redemption – a chance to get back “home,” if you will, to the state tournament, where the ‘Dogs have been on four occasions in the last eight years. more
Kilgore High School senior Jamaria Thomas has one more game to play representing the Bulldogs. Thomas has been chosen to play in the Hoops for Autism all-star game at Union Grove High School in Gladewater next Saturday, March 30, a 5:30 p.m. start for the girls game; the boys will play at 7:30. more
Headed into Thursday’s Region XIV Conference softball battle in Bullard, of all places, the Kilgore College Rangers were a respectable 2-2, early-on in the conference schedule. Tyler unwrapped that just a bit. more
