Monday night games are rare for the Kilgore High School baseball team, but they did make another statement on the road earlier this week. Coach Eugene Lafitte’s Diamond ‘Dogs beat Longview, 8-3, in their third meeting with the Lobos this season (Kilgore is 2-1 against them, including in the Oil Belt Classic). It was the sixth straight win for the Bulldogs, who haven’t lost since the first game of a tournament in Jasper back on March 7. more

Red, orange, or purple with yellow polka dots: Kilgore’s Lady Bulldogs don’t really care about the attire, it’s all about the mission. Coach Cheyenne Kirkpatrick’s Lady ‘Dogs held off Center, 5-1, on Friday afternoon at Stream-Flo Field here in Kilgore, running their record to 12-4 this season (ironically, the same record as the KHS baseball team). They’ve also won three of their last four games. Kirkpatrick’s team has seemingly played its final non-district game of the regular season, and they’ll enter the District 16-4A schedule now. It’s spring break, and like just about every other year, the Kilgore High School soccer programs both took the week off. The rest of District 16-4A is probably thankful for the break. The latest victories came at Waskom, with the Lady ‘Dogs bringing home a 9-0 win, and coach Tom Wait’s Bulldogs getting another shutout, 6-0. more
Storms damaged Kilgore early Thursday morning, and on the lighter side, put a small dent in the Kilgore High School softball season, as well. The Lady Bulldogs had been scheduled to visit Mabank for a game Thursday afternoon, but Mabank called off the game, KHS coach Cheyenne Kirkpatrick said. It was a non-district game, one of the final ones before the District 16-4A schedule begins Tuesday. Kilgore (11-4) was to host Center on Friday, and will be home Tuesday versus Spring Hill. That’s also SAFFE Day recognition night. more
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – There are exceptions to every rule and, with regard to Steve Torrence’s domination of the NHRA’s Mello Yello drag racing series, that exception is Gainesville Raceway, site this week of the 50th Amalie Oil Gatornationals. While Torrence’s fingerprints are all over virtually every other event in drag racing’s primary series, one would be hard pressed to find evidence he ever has raced in Florida. more
