It would not be hyperbole – exaggeration – to say the Kilgore College Rangers probably saved their season Saturday afternoon in Carthage. Coach Brian Hoberecht and his team dealt Panola College a 64-62 loss in Region XIV Conference play on Saturday, just Panola’s second loss of the conference schedule. It stunned the Ponies, but it lifted the Rangers, who had lost four straight – all conference games – but have two of the next three at home, and evened their conference record (4-4). more

When prospective college athletes take recruiting visits, it’s no secret that they are given the “red carpet Treatment” in an effort to woo them to State U or Capital City Tech. But when Lee Livesay visited the University of Louisiana-Monroe on an official football recruiting trip back when he was in high school at Kilgore, coaches didn’t put his name in lights on the stadium scoreboard, nor was he plied with plum on-campus housing. more

If the Kilgore High School basketball teams keep playing the way they played Tuesday, the season may be extended quite a ways for both. Kilgore swept a pair of important District 16-4A home games Tuesday in front of a large crowd. The Lady Bulldogs put away Chapel Hill, 45-19, and then the Bulldogs, after trailing for all but one second of the first half, also knocked off CHHS, 50-38. more
Paris was put on blast from the get-go Wednesday night at Masters Gym by Kilgore College’s Lady Rangers, but the Rangers have now lost a couple of conference games in a row. The Lady Rangers blew by Paris, 81-44 Wednesday, the team’s first home game since before the holidays. On the road at Lee College, though, the Rangers stumbled, 69-64, suffering back-to-back Region XIV Conference losses. more
