2018 Texas Two Step fundraiser plans night of dancing, donations

It takes two to tango but it takes an entire community to support a good cause.

Texas Two Step is returning in the new year to raise funds for the Kilgore Boys and Girls Club and the Fuller Center for Housing with “Two to Tango”, an exclusive event featuring live Latin dance presentations, dancing for guests, silent and live auctions. The gala is set for Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, the Kilgore Lions Club welcomed Rachel Brian, Sally Beane and Phyllis Jewell to talk about the importance of supporting these charities through the upcoming fundraiser.

“We are representing an organization that we really, really believe in,” Brian told the club. “Currently we have 69 children that are served by the Boys and Girls Club during the week, five days a week after school. They can be here until as late as seven o'clock. It's a place where they can go, they can feel safe, get assistance with their homework, get a really good snack and just have a good time with their peers.”

Brian said the planned fundraiser is a necessity for charitable organizations like Boys and Girls Club.

“We are trying to raise funds because, you know, places like that do not run themselves on air. It's a very expensive proposition,” she said.

Brian added fundraising for the club was especially important in Kilgore because so many children depended on assistance for basic necessities. She pointed out, when she first came to teach in KISD in 1996, the same time Jewell was principal of Chandler Elementary, only 35 to 40 percent of students were eligible for free or reduced price school lunches. Since that time, she said, that figure has increased to 60 percent.

“The need has escalated,” she said. “The only way we can do this and keep it going is to raise money.”

Jewell described the theme of the event and some planned activities.

“'Two to Tango' is fun to begin with and we're going to keep it fun. We realize that there is a large need for the Boys and Girls Club and Fuller House to have funding to support families in the community and, above all, our children,” Jewell said. “We're going to have entertainment. We're looking at music from bands and DJs. We're looking at just a fun evening with a lot of color.”

Individual tickets to the event are $60. Sponsorship levels with various benefits are also available. A $250 sponsorship entitles the sponsor to two tickets and recognition as a Special Partner of the Fuller Center and Boys and Girls Club. A $500 sponsorship comes with two tickets and recognition in the event program and all advertising as a Silver Level sponsor.

A $1,000 sponsorship comes with four tickets, four specialty drink coupons, a name or logo displayed at the event and recognition on the program and in advertising as a Gold Level sponsor.

A $2,500 sponsorship secures a reserved table for eight the night of the event, eight specialty drink coupons, a name and/or logo displayed at the event and recognition in the program and all advertising as a Platinum Level sponsor.
