The doors of the Texan Theater will open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, for dancing, dining and donating all in support of Kilgore ISD.
Money raised will go to the KISD Education Foundation, which works to increase private support for educational activities at KISD which benefit students and personnel by supporting activities not funded by tax dollars.
Ticket sales, table reservations and auction proceeds will all go to support special projects at the school district.
Teachers with a unique, innovative idea for a classroom project can apply for grants during the school year. The ideas judged to be the best will get funding from the district, supplied by the money raised during annual fundraisers.
In past years, KISD teachers have used these funds for classroom projects including robotics, student art and video game design.
In 2018, Kilgore Primary teachers received nearly $20,000 in funding for new science lab equipment, middle school teachers got $800 to create an educational escape room and teachers at Kilgore High netted over $5,000 for supplies and materials students can use to complete projects in the Humanities classes.
“What we do with the money that’s raised, the teachers within the district can apply for grants. They’re much like an Innovation Grant. They are for things they want to do in the classroom that might not be able to be covered by the budget,” said Leah Gorman, Education Foundation board member.
The event will be catered by Jack Ryan’s Steak & Chophouse and music will be provided by The Darrin Morris Band.
Festivities will kick off with cocktails and a silent auction from 5:30 to 7 p.m., followed by dinner. The band will perform at 8 before the live auction at 8:30. Closing time is at 11:30.
Dress code is Texas Country Chic and denim is welcome.
