Big week for 'Dogs, ending with scrimmage

Next week is probably the busiest week of the Kilgore High School football calendar that doesn’t end with a game.

The Ragin’ Red will practice as scheduled on Monday through Wednesday, and students will break along the way to do schedule pick-up and IDs. Thursday night is the annual watermelon fest, which will be held outside the Mitchell Field House on campus – the teams are introduced, and there will also be performances by the band, cheerleaders and Hi-Steppers.

Friday presents the first taste of actual on-field action. The Gilmer Buckeyes will come to town for preseason scrimmages against Kilgore’s freshmen, junior varsity and varsity, at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium. The first portion will be controlled, meaning coaches can be on the field and give pointers to players. The scrimmages normally end with a timed quarter, of timed half, of real football.

There will be another preseason scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 25, at Hallsville, and then the season will begin the following week on Friday, Sept. 1, as the Bulldogs host Nacogdoches.

Also, for anyone who’d like to purchase season ticket packages, those will be on sale through Thursday at the athletic department office on campus – that’s $36 for a ticket to each of the Bulldogs’ six home games of the season.
