Chamber offers insight on new tax questions


Small business owners looking for insight into new tax laws can still secure a spot at next week’s BizConnect Luncheon at Meadowbrook Golf & Event Center.

Hosted quarterly by the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, seats at the luncheons cost $20 per chamber member or $25 for non-members. Registration has been extended through the event (space permitting), set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, in the ballroom at 1306 Houston St.

This quarter’s luncheon features a University of Texas at Tyler accounting specialist: Dr. Roger Lirely is chair of Department of Accounting, Finance and Business Law there and has been a professor of Accounting in the College of Business & Technology since 2010.

Lirely’s tax law topics Tuesday include:

• Limit on interest deduction;

• Deductability of business entertainment expenses;

• Temporary 100 percent expensing of certain business assets and modifications to expensing of automobiles and other personal-use property.
