Charles Edward Smith


Funeral services for Charles Edward Smith, of Longview, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Timothy Carroll officiating and Rev. J. D. Palmer as eulogist. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.

Charles was born in Hallsville, Texas on Tuesday, January 26, 1948 to the parentage of Edward and Mae Nell Lister Smith and was reared by his mother and step-father, Sherman Anderson. He departed this life on Tueesday, May 7, 2019 at Longview Regional Hospital in Longview, Texas.

Early in life he united with Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and remained a member until his demise.

He was a graduate of Mary C. Womack High School in the Class of 1967.

In his early years he enjoyed riding motorcycles and was always an avid Cowboys football fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather.

Charles leaves his memory to be cherished by his wife, Jerry Norris Smith of Longview, TX; daughter, Terry Lilly of Longview, TX; grandchildren, Destinee Cook of Longview, TX and Devonte Cox of Moore, OK; great-grandchild, Aailiyah Cox of Moore, OK; step-children, Tammy and Oscar of Longview, TX; Nesby of Houston, TX and Ronnie of Dallas, TX; step-grandchildren, Carlos and Darius of Longview; TX; three sisters, Nelda Jackson and her husband, Willie and Beverly Smith all of Longview, TX; and Diane Anderson of Odessa, TX; five brothers, Calvin Smith and Glendell Smith both of Longview, TX; Marion Faggett and his wife, JoAnn of Dallas, TX; Rev. Herman Anderson and his wife, Jeanette of Tyler, TX; and Anthony Anderson and his wife, Gail of Baytown, TX; uncle, Emory Lister of Longview, TX; aunts, Bobbie Jean Duncan and Mag Smith both of Los Angeles, CA; special nephew, Derrick Jackson of Longview, TX; best friend, Robert Lister of Longview, TX; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Public viewing will be Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from noon until 6 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Hallsville, TX. There will be no wake.
