City negotiates deal for golf course eatery

A new project is in the works for Meadowbrook Golf & Event Center, but details are limited as negotiations continue for the space.

The news comes just one month shy of a year since city officials shuttered the Firehouse Bar & Grill located in the golf course’s main building.

Following a closed door ‘executive session’ Tuesday night, Kilgore City Council unanimously gave City Manager Josh Selleck the go-ahead to “negotiate and execute a lease agreement” for property at 1306 Houston St. and he’s confirmed the restaurant space is the only viable facility that can be leased on the city-owned course.

“We’ve been looking for potential operators and food and beverage out there,” Selleck said. “We’re still working to finalize an agreement and try to see if we can come up with something that would work for a private operator at that location.”

He offered no hints at the current prospect, “To be announced once the agreement is finalized.”

The timetable for the project also hinges on what kind of renovations, if any, will be necessary in the space.

The second item on the council’s closed session agenda Tuesday included a discussion of 1612 S. Henderson Blvd., the Laird Memorial Hospital facilities. The group took no action follow the private discussion.
