Civic GC enjoys auction

Civic Garden Club held its last regular meeting of the 2017-2018 year in April, concluding it with an  auction/fundraiser.

Vice President Rita Thompson presided over the business session in the absence of President Kim Gore.  Martha Clark gave the invocation. Refreshments were provided by Wanda Bittick, Marilyn Martin, David Reeves and Betty Lee.

Thompson reminded members of the Central Zone Summer Workshop.  It will be hosted by the Kilgore Council of Garden Clubs, June 5, at First Baptist Church, Kilgore.

The treasurer’s report was given by Clark.  Bittick proposed that the club donate a rose bush to the Shakespeare Garden.  Members approved this proposal.  Plans for the club’s 75th anniversary next year were discussed. A pilgrimage to The Lily Farm in Cente on May 23 will conclude the year’s scheduled meetings.

Following the business session, the remainder of the meeting was devoted to the annual fundraiser — an auction of plants, gardening items, and baked goods.  Thompson, assisted by Clark and Faye King, conducted the auction. Spirited bidding and friendly competition provided enjoyment for all.

Attending were Wanda Bittick, Roberta Boggs, Joy Borders, Martha Clark, Pam DeCeault, Alma Nell Farmer, Vicki Hodges, Joy Jordan, Faye King, Betty Lee, Marilyn Martin, Louise Raby, David Reeves, Marian Richardson, Patty Sanders, Lavada Thomas, Rita Thompson, Judy Wilkins, Brenda Beal, and Judy Hammons.
