Funeral services for Edna Armstrong Jones, 94, of Kilgore will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, at Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church, with Rev. Carlos N. Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow at Pirtle Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.
Edna was born to Webster and Zula Sephronia Anthony Armstrong in Columbia, Miss., Wednesday, July 23, 1924. She died Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Christus Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview.
She relocated to Kilgore in 1952 and Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church became her church. She served until her death.
She attended the public elementary school and Globe Academy High School in Hub, Miss., and ultimately garnered her high school diploma from Kilgore High School in the 1970s. She later attended Kilgore College receiving certification as an LVN while taking Bible and tailoring/sewing correspondence courses.
She worked for many years as a cook. She also held employment at Kilgore High School, Maude Laird Middle School and retired from Kilgore College.
In her early adulthood, she united in marriage with B. J. Evans and one child, Pearlie, was born to this union. She later married Roscoe Jones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, daughter Pearlie Mae Williams, brothers James, A. J., Vernon, and Otis, sisters Lucille, Elmira, Lovie and Lizzie, and a great-granddaughter.
She remains in the hearts of her four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, as well a host of other relatives and friends.
