Emergency responders help library kick-off summer reading program

Fire trucks, police sirens, and fun-flavored shaved ice: what do they all have in common?

All were on hand at the kick-off party for the Summer Reading Program hosted by the Kilgore Public Library on June 12.

The party planner was the assistant librarian and children’s librarian Marilyn Kitchens.

Kitchens invited special guests from the community to come to the fun day at the Kilgore City Park. These guests included representatives from Kilgore Police Department, Kilgore Fire Department and Charlie’s Snowballs.

Firefighters donned their gear and demonstrated how each piece of equipment works. Young partiers played with the police sirens and cooled off with a sweet treat from Charlie’s.

About 200 children and adults attended the event.
