Services for Fred Samford, 89, of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Chaplain WayneNorvell officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha. Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Samford died Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Longview.
Fred Samford was born in Paxton, Texasc on April 28, 1929 to the late Rogers Ben Samford and Eula Cammack Samford. Fred graduated from Tenaha High School in 1946. He decided to join the U.S. Navy, and served from 1946 to 1948 in the Pacific, stationed at Okinawa. After Fred returned from his military service, he met Joann Ingram who became the love of his life.
Fred began employment with Atlantic Pipeline in January 1950. He and Joann were married on June 17, 1950. They lived in Aransas Pass before moving to Corpus Christi in 1955. Fred worked for Atlantic Refining in Corpus Christi as an Accountant. He later transferred to the Dallas and Houston offices of ARCO and worked as Accounting Supervisor. He retired at ARCO’s Longview office in 1985 after 36 years of employment. He was a member of Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kilgore.
Preceding him in death are his brother, Rogers Burke Samford, and his sister, Aillene Samford Roberson.
Surviving Fred are his wife, Joann Ingram Samford; son, Glenn Samford and wife Kathryn Hall; daughter, Shirley Samford Smith and husband Terry; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
