Get MADD, get walking

“We walk to end drunk driving,” and participants in the second annual Walk Like MADD event will gather at Kilgore College April 1.

Asking others to “take up the fight” alongside Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the fundraiser’s organizers currently sit at 48 percent of their $20,000 goal with $9,538 raised by 49 participants on nine teams.

Their second event in Gregg County runs from 8 a.m. to noon on April Fool’s Saturday.

“Walk Like MADD is your chance to do something about drunk driving in our community,” according to the group’s event page at walklikemadd.org/greggcounty. “This year, thousands of people in over 60 cities around the nation will participate in 5k events to eliminate drunk driving from our roadways.

“You can help MADD eliminate drunk driving by signing up for a Walk Like MADD event near you as a walker, team captain, or volunteer. You can even be involved without attending the event by signing up as a virtual walker or making a donation to another walker or team.”

Gathering at 800 Ross Ave. April 1, participants can check-in from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The walk begins at 9:30 a.m.
