Funeral Services for Janis Joy LeBlanc Slayter, 83, of Kilgore will be held at 2 pm Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Dr. Pete Freeman officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Kilgore Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Slayter completed her earthly journey on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Longview.
Janis was born August 14, 1935, in Pleasanton, Texas to Albert James Lee and Lela Qualls Lee. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Kilgore. Janis worked as a secretary for Kelly Air Force Base security services in San Antonio for ten years before moving to Kilgore where she worked as a secretary for the Kilgore school systems for over 30 years before retiring. After retirement, she enjoyed painting and traveling. "Mimi" or "Mimi Janis" as she was known to her grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved her family with all her heart and spending time with her kids and grandkids was what brought her the most joy in life. Janis will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, H.R. LeBlanc, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of almost 24 years, Edwin Slayter; children, Karen Norton (Philip) of Flint, Shelley Carrington (Joe) of White Oak, Candy Waller (Gordon) of Plano, and Craig Slayter (Kim) of Kilgore; grandchildren, Brittany Kreft (Casey), William Norton (Leigha), Aaron Norton, Travis Carrington, Brent Carrington, Ethan Waller, Noah Waller, Seth Waller, Colton Slayter, Coby Slayter, Katie Slayter, and Kallie Slayter; great grandson, Drite Kreft; sister, Kaye Lee; sisters-in-law, Ollie Ruth Brookfield and Joann Enen; nephew, Jim Enen; niece, Jennifer Crossen; and a host of other family members and friends whom she loved dearly.
