A Celebration of Life for Jewel Matlock, 92, of Kilgore, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Rev. Earl W. “Buddy” Duggins officiating. Private family interment. Mrs. Matlock went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Longview.
Jewel was born on September 4, 1925 in Mead, Okla., to Stonewall Jackson “Rock” and Annie Bell Blount. Jewel had been a faithful member of Forest Home Baptist Church since 1955. She attended the Builders Sunday School Class and the Joymakers seniors group. Jewel remained very active until recently when her health began to fail.
She attended the senior exercise group three times a week at St. Luke’s Methodist, Senior Saints at Kilgore Bible Church, the Kilgore Senior Citizens Club that meets twice a month and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Her love for people touched many lives.
Her family was the source of her strength and spending time with them was when she was happiest. Jewel was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives she has touched.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jane Barton and husband Jimmy of The Colony, Marilyn Shockey of Kilgore; grandchildren, Michael Horner, Angela Ortega, Jeremy Barton, Jana Jones; great-grandchildren, Aaron Horner, Anthony Ortega, Blake Ortega, Victoria Ortega, Michaela Jeffrey, Ella Jones. and great-great-grandchild, Amaya Ortega. Also, left to carry on her legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other loving family members.
Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Arlin Matlock; son, Johnny Matlock; parents, and three sisters and three brothers.
