A pair of Kilgore kids participated in one of the most promising programs in golf in the state on Thursday, right here at Meadowbrook Golf and Event Center.
Eleven-year-old Kolton Hale and 13-year-old Gauge Nichols played with a few others of various age groups in the Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour here at Meadowbrook Thursday morning.
The stop in Kilgore is one of 26 tournaments the NTPGA Junior Tour will make this summer, featuring golfers – boys and girls – ages seven through 19, with players matched up, of course, based on their ages. The tour plays year-round, but is very busy in the summertime.
It’s not really new. The NTPGA Junior Tour has been around since 1983, and thousands of kids take part each year. Its mission statement is simply to grow the game of golf to a diverse group of children in north Texas and instill positive character traits.
Also on Thursday, NTPGA Junior golfers were competing at courses in Fort Worth and Frisco, and next week, the tour moves to Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin.
