A juvenile suspect has become the third arrest in connection to the disappearance of 20-year-old Sheryia Grant – the woman, eight months pregnant at the time, was apparently murdered soon after she was reported missing in August.
Kilgore Police Department announced the arrest Monday afternoon but did not provide any details on the juvenile suspect, identified only as a resident of Arp, arrested in Rusk County.
The arrest follows two others Wednesday, March 8, when 22-year-old Laneshia Lashae Young and 28-year-old Allen Lamont Sutton were apprehended in Longview. Both are Overton residents, and both were initially charged with two counts each of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, one of those charges tied to interfering with a human corpse.
According to KPD, “A juvenile from Arp, Texas was taken into custody due to a Directive to Apprehend Order which was the result of a two count indictment for Tampering With or Fabricating Physical Evidence (Human Corpse) Felony 2 and Tampering With or Fabricating Physical Evidence Felony 3.”
It's the same indictment, issued March 1 by a Rusk County Grand Jury, that saw Young and Sutton taken into custody.
KPD's release on Monday's arrest is similar to the department's announcement March 8, noting Grant disappeared from Kilgore Aug. 20, 2016, eight months pregnant.
Echoing the previous release, “Evidence uncovered during the investigation indicates she was murdered shortly after she was reported missing/ endangered.”
In both announcements, the department underscored its commitment to the high-priority Grant case.
“Although the investigation has now produced three indictments, the investigation is far from over,” according to Monday's release.
In the paired announcements, KPD noted additional forensic evidence is being reviewed in the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Crime Stoppers operations in Gregg County and Rusk County are offering a combined award of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrests of those responsible for Grant's murder.
