The biggest event on Kilgore High School Ducks Unlimited’s 2017 calendar is tomorrow night, Thursday, at Kilgore’s Bodacious Barbecue.
It’s the third annual KHS DU banquet, with proceeds going to further the high school’s young chapter. The last two banquets have been big hits – so big, in fact, that the Bulldogs are the two-time defending state champion, and have registered in the top 10 nationally. They’re seventh this year, sixth a year ago.
The KHS DU chapter is number one in Texas.
The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. at Bodacious, at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Highway 42, with the meal, and continues with the annual auction, then wraps up with the raffle.
The latest DU-endorsed guns and weaponry, outdoor items and home décor will be on hand, and children are welcome.
Tickets will be on sale at the door, and to hopefully make things more affordable, the tickets will cost the same as those purchased in advance: $45 for a single ticket, $70 for a couple’s ticket, and $25 for students (under 17).
Faculty sponsors for KHS DU are Kristen Pieper and Travis Orms, and the DU student president this year is Emalie Hanewald.
Anyone who’d like to know more about the banquet, or about KHS DU, can e-mail Pieper at email@example.com. For more on Ducks Unlimited as a national entity, go to ducks.org.
Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest wetland conservation organization, and most of those who come out are avid outdoorsmen. Membership in KHS-DU is open to any student at Kilgore High School. Anyone interested in joining should contact Pieper or Orms.
