Press Release

Following on from Avalon Faire’s Oktoberfest last Saturday, Kilgore will host two more German-themed festivals: today and on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Brigitta’s Hungarian Restaurant kicks off its Oktoberfest this afternoon at 5 p.m. and next Saturday will see the Kilgore Main Street Oktoberfest take place from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Historic Downtown Kilgore.

"Authentic Oktoberfest experience is our aim. Our food features what we call 'the best wurst', including five types of sausage, including our family recipe Csabai kolbasz. An Oom-pah band will be playing, while judges critique contestants for a 'beard contest', 'lederhosen contest' and 'dirndl contest', said restaurant owner Mike Gyorfi. “In the spirit of Oktoberfest we are giving free beer away, Sam Adams Oktoberfest."

Brigitta’s will also be selling their “best wurst” at the Kilgore Main Street Oktoberfest next Saturday in Historic Downtown Kilgore. They will be joined by food and artisan vendors, the AMBUCS of East Texas Bier Garden, German Bites by the Kilgore College Culinary students, Root Beer Garden by Brookshires and a Kinder Zone filled with lots of entertainment for kids (Kinder Zone is only from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.).

Revelers will be kept entertained all day long with music by local Oompah band the Bier Nutz, performance by the Downhome Cloggers, dance lessons by the KHS Co-Ed Dance, Story time with KHS Drama Club and ending the night with a lively performance from The Social Club. Throughout the day, there will be many competitions for people to enter such as bier stein holding, chicken dance, best dressed and the much talked about hot dog eating competition!

“We will only have ten contestants enter the hot dog eating competition and to win the $250 prize they have to eat their ten hot dogs faster than their competitors,” says City of Kilgore Special Event Coordinator Sonya Trout. “We are also holding a celebrity hot dog eating competition, which will include James Murphy, Republic Services General Manager, who is the sponsor of this competition”.
