Kilgore’s Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization of Women Educators recently hosted the Texas District V meeting on Saturday, April 6. District V consists of chapters in Marshall, Longview, Kilgore, Carthage and Sulphur Springs.
Local chapter president Teresa Anderson welcomed 40 members from East Texas who came to celebrate “Spring on the Patio” at the Back Porch. Nine Alpha Rho members had decorated the restaurant patio with ferns and pot pants.
Other guests in attendance included the State Vice President of Membership Robin Miller, State Treasurer Susan Raschke, and State Sergeant-at-Arms Lou Ann Hollis. They brought information from the State Board including plans for the International Convention to be held in Minneapolis this July and several future meetings.
The local chapter sold add-a-bead bracelets to raise money for their scholarship fund. Each chapter represented contributed money towards the State Altruistic Project, Ronald McDonald House. The Alpha Rho members donated $75 towards the combined total of $536 for RMH. State Altruistic chair Sharon Noblit of Longview accepted the funds for Ronald McDonald House. Noblit also reported that District V volunteered for 11,378 hours in 2018-19; money donated was $30,400; non-monetary donations equaled $14,127; scholarships given totaled $1,900; and ITE donations were $120. For a grand total of $46,547.
Members were served their food choice for lunch by the Back Porch staff. Afterwards, the District V Council members elected the District V president Ann Hudson of Sulphur Springs as their representative to the International Convention. They also elected a nominating committee to select a slate of officers for 2020-2022 which will be presented for election at their fall meeting in Longview on October 5.
