Kilgore softball broke a 10-year playoff drought last year, and apparently, the girls have decided to simply not allow another, not even for a season.
The Lady Bulldogs pounded overmatched Chapel Hill, 12-0, on Friday night, here at Stream-Flo Field. That leaves KHS with a 4-4 record in District 16-4A, with fourth place (the final playoff spot in the district) all but wrapped up – but with an outside shot at third, depending upon this upcoming final week of the regular season.
Coach Cheyenne Kirkpatrick’s Lady ‘Dogs are 16-8 on the season to date.
Kristen Wilson has performed very well at the plate and the mound for much of the season, and did so again on Friday, teacher appreciation night at the park. Wilson didn’t allow a walk and struck out seven to get the win on the mound, and helped her own cause with two doubles and an RBI inside the batter’s box.
Also for Kilgore, Genna Cavanaugh had two hits, one of them a double, with an RBI; Miah Thomas had a triple, an RBI and a pair of stolen bases; Tra’Kaila Graves also had a triple, her second in as many games; Jaycie Villanueva had a double and an RBI; Mackenzie Cavanaugh had a single, an RBI and stole two bases; Hailee Jo Lewis had a double and an RBI; and Bailey Hedges had a single and an RBI.
Kilgore has two games left in its regular season: they’ll visit Gilmer on Tuesday and then host Henderson next Thursday.
