Kilgore senior Javan Smitherman (seated, center) signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career and his education at Dallas Baptist University next school year. Smitherman, who was named the District 15-4A most valuable player in Kilgore's district title win a year ago, will pitch at DBC, and follow in the footsteps of his dad, Jarrel (pictured, seated at left), and uncle James. They helped set the program's single-season record for wins in 1996. Also, Javan's cousin, Emma, is headed to DBC for women's track. Javan will join the Bulldogs for his senior season in the spring. Also pictured are his mom, Christal; KHS head baseball coach Eugene LaFitte; and assistant coach Joey Pippen. Congratulations, Javan!
