“I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with his freedom.”

– Bob Dylan

HEADS up: While the odds of getting struck by a fiery bolt from the sky in any given year is approximately one in 1.1 million, the odds of getting hit in a lifetime is around one in 13,500, according to NOAA Lightning Safety Specialist John Jensenius.

AGAIN, those courageous and cooking souls at J & Co, sisters Julie Beck and Carrie Jackson, are providing dinner (including dessert) in the hour before bingo at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church – all benefitting Boys and Girls Club of Kilgore.

BINGO cards (cash and other prizes for the winners) are $10 or three for $20. Dinner is $12, $7 for those aged 12 or younger.

TO reserve a spot at the dinner table, call 903-631-8322 or 903-757-9197. Dinner is at 6 p.m., bingo follows at 7.

OF COURSE the weather is perfect… it’s not yet Relay For Life weekend.

ORGANIZER Teresa Anderson is no doubt lobbying anyone who has influence of the weather.

ON the subject of lobbying, Chamber of Commerce president Cindy Morris is lobbying local businesses to reserve corporate tables at “Texas Tea – Celebrating Women In Business” on April 20.

THE dinner and purse raffle this year will feature awards for women in local business community – The Rising Star, The Shining Star and the Lifetime Star Achiever. In prior years, a similar event – albeit without the awards – was called Ladies Night Out and featured vendors and “shopping opportunities.”

THE vendors will be on hand again at the re-styled event from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. April 20 at the Texas Broadcast Museum.

TABLES for eight are $600, for four are $325 and individual tickets are available from the Chamber of Commerce for $65. Call 903-984-5022 to reserve a table or a seat.
