KILGOROUND

“No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or get all the credit for doing it.”

– Andrew Carnegie

THE FIRST Fridays After 5 concert is this week, featuring Harvest Moon Countrygrass.

OUR friend Fred Gephardt plays, as the song says, “the fiddle in the band.” Fred and wife Vivian connected with Kilgore through Debbie and Alan VanDoren and, though they live in Longview, have become regulars at Kilgore’s downtown events. We’ll be there to let them know how much we appreciate their enthusiasm for our community – and how much we enjoy their country/bluegrass music.

MUSIC starts under the derricks on Kilgore Street at 8 p.m. Downtown D’Lites and Charlie’s Snowballs will be downtown early with refreshments, parked alongside arts and crafts vendors.

A year ago, only nine percent of Texas was suffering a drought, according to the Texas Water Development Board. Hard as it is to imagine here in wet East Texas, 64 percent of the state is now in a drought – and the panhandle is enduring an extreme drought.

KILGORE resident, wonderful artist and all-around charitable fellow, Anup Bhandari will be featured at an art exhibit from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 12 at the Sorey law firm in Longview.

The law office is at 109 W. Tyler Street.

ANUP has an unusual – unique, in our experience – style that makes you want to own his work. (Yes, we do.)

MARGARET and Joe Roberts are coming up on a 38th wedding anniversary.

A THIRD dentist will be joining Drs. Joey and Josh DeGraffenried next month. The newest dentist in the building is a former engineer who changed careers… we’re reminded of Dr. Clark Langley, one of the physicians at Trinity Clinic, who was an oil field electrician before going to medical school. We hope the new dentist is as happy with his career move is Clark is with his.
