KILGOROUND

“If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.”

– Rene Descartes

THE secret to filling the Texan is to have students perform.

KILGORE High School orchestra was the opening act for Main Street’s free concert Friday night… the Texan, unofficially Kilgore’s newest event center, was packed. I’m told (attention, Fire Marshal Brandon Bigos) the crowd numbered one person less than the maximum allowable capacity after the departure of She Who Generally Knows Best.

NEWS flash: Aw, awe and ah are not synonyms. Please stop treating them as if they are. They are homonyms and, as such, they deserve your respect.

TACOS Las Tejanitas did far more for Friday’s free Cuatro De Mayo concert than sell dollar tacos and give away margaritas: they provided the mechanical bull. Despite the light rain that fell most of the evening, the bull and its operator stayed busy.

LONGTIME local band – we’ll call them Southern Rock –Dennis Ross and the Axberg (Jim and John Claude) Brothers will open the third iteration of Porch Fest 2018 on the main stage at The Back Porch Stage on Broadway when the show gets started Friday afternoon. Gates open at 2:30 and the music begins shortly afterward.

SATURDAY’S line-up includes KHS grad and blues guitarist Ally Venable as well as local favorite Teazur featuring Kilgore resident guitarist Rio Wallace. Gates open Saturday at 10 a.m.

NEW this year: in addition to the main stage there will be an acoustic stage.

TICKETS are available at the door. Of course we’ll be there.

SINCE 2005 net migration from Mexico to the U.S. has been negative. That is to say more Mexicans have left the U.S. than have come to the United States, according to the Pew Research Center.
