KILGOROUND

“Let me tell you something that we Israelis have against Moses. He took us 40 years through the desert in order to bring us to the one spot in the Middle East that has no oil!”

– Golda Meir

EARLY voting is underway in next week’s run-off elections. Voting at the polls is next Tuesday.

WORD is out that one of our favorite people, attorney extraordinaire and Kilgore municipal judge Glenn Phillips got married last weekend. It’s our understanding (thanks to the bride’s Facebook page) Glenn and Lee Ann Palmer – she’s owner of Chili Pepper Hot Shot – are honeymooning at this very moment.

CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to both of you.

AND, more or less on that subject, KHS grad, Hi-Stepper alum and Rangerette Forever Amy Mims is engaged following a public proposal from her beau Bo Bruyere.

AT the conclusion of the annual spring recital by Amy’s dance students, Bo bounced on stage, dropped to one knee and popped the question right there in front of all those parents.

SHE said yes.

HAPPILY, we don’t need the rain.

WITH summer temperatures here, it’s reassuring to note we are still more than six inches above normal rainfall for the year (23.78 compared to a normal value of 17.13) and all the Sabine basin lakes are at 100 percent of capacity – except Fork and even it is at 98 percent.

COFFEE plus conversation equals connections, Kilgore Chamber of Commerce says as part of their marketing for their Morning Brew.

IF you’re interested in the connections (and the coffee and the conversation), Morning Brew this month is tomorrow, 8 a.m. at First Baptist Church.

AS at your desk, we at ours delight in our regular visitors – Dale Hedrick, Margaret Roberts, Chip Hale, Andy Garr and Andy Elliott come to mind – but few make us smile as reliably as Elaine Campbell and her cheerful Main Street Chihuahua, Sammy.
