“The time has come,” the Walrus said, “To talk of many things: Of shoes – and ships – and sealing-wax – Of cabbages – and kings – And why the sea is boiling hot – And whether pigs have wings.”

GOOD Friends, Great Friends, Best Friends – there’s a lot of happy updates coming out of the Facebook page for ‘Friendship Playground’ as the grassroots group of local professionals raises funds for an inclusive playscape at Harris Street Park.

FOR example, a pack of Kilgore Middle School students raised $800 for the project.

HOW will you help?

CHANGE can be fun, but it can certainly be frustrating too.

SORRY about the delay in getting that last paper to you. Bit of a miscommunication down the line, but we’re grateful to local postal workers for helping us get the Jan. 5 edition in your mailboxes as quickly as possible.

A HICCUP was bound to happen sooner or later. We plan to keep that one from repeating itself.

SPEAKING of, Kilgore Chamber of Commerce and local business leaders will be heading to the state capital and its capitol building (lest we forget there’s a difference in the spelling) as part of the East Texas Coalition.

ANYONE interested in joining the local lobbying effort should reach out to chamber president Jill McCartney via 903-984-5022.

DON’T say we didn’t give you a heads-up: this spring’s Fridays After 5 concerts will be April 5, May 3, June 7, Aug. 2 and Sept. 6.

KEEP an eye on the News Herald on who’s playing, when and where. In case of rain, you’ll find the free music events in the Texan Theater.

WE’RE pretty excited about Hungrytown’s visit to the Old Post Office this week. Fans of “Portlandia” (put a bird on it) might recognize the music, and you can easily find YouTube videos to whet your appetite for Saturday night’s free show.

FROM the good news / bad news file, it seems an “Impending Galactic Crash Could Rip Open the Black Hole at the Milky Way’s Center.” On the flipside, according to LiveScience, it’s a few billion years off and only a few stars in our neighborhood will be affected.

MARK your calendars.
