“Ah, 1st April: the only day of the year that people critically evaluate things they find on the Internet before accepting them as true.”

– We don’t know

who said it, but it

certainly rings true.

BEST April Fool’s gag this year goes to Texas Parks and Wildlife’s announcement of their new Jackalope Herd.

IN the meantime, one headline we were sure was a joke then horrified to find is, apparently, true: “Cockroach Milk is the Next Great Superfood According to Scientists.” Even if it grants superpowers... thanks, we’ll pass.

KILGORE Public Library added more than 100 new items to the collection last month. Check out their list when you go visit the Peep Diorama Contest at Thursday. All ages can enter (you’ll be grouped into categories) with a maximum-size 14-inch by 16-inch boxed diorama (title on the front).

“PEEP related pubs are highly-encouraged” as contestants vie for Best Literary Diorama, Peeps Choice and awards per age category.

YOUR entries are due April 4.

FOR what it’s worth: any leftover Peeps can be dropped off at the News Herald during normal business hours. We’re happy to take up that burden.

CLOCK’S ticking: You’ll learn the identity of the 2019 First Lady of Kilgore on Friday night.

FOR those who don’t hear the announcement live, you can get the update on your phone as you enjoy The Social Club’s performance during Fridays After 5 on the World’s Richest Acre. The free concert from Kilgore Main Street begins at 7 p.m.

WELL done Sonya Waters, Mariah Ferkel, Vickie Raymond, Charlie Walker and all the volunteers, artists, Kilgore College chefs and others who made the 2019 KilGogh Arts Festival a success. They really did “Gogh Big” during the three-day event.

KUDOS to the Kilgore High School arts students who else lent a hand on the “East Texas Arts Experience.”
