Kirk Foreman Portley


Funeral services for Kirk Lynn Foreman Portley, 64, of Lone Star, formerly of Kilgore, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at Victory Funeral Services with Rev. Lamar Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services of Kilgore. There will be no public viewing.

Kirk was born to Lue Nettie Williams on Tuesday, February 3, 1953, in Longview and was soon adopted by Tessie Portley. He died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Lone Star.

He attended Kilgore public elementary schools, C. B. Dansby High School and was a graduate in the Kilgore High School Class of 1971.

Early in life he was baptized at Kilgore Baptist Church and was a member until his demise.

He entered the work force with employment with the Social Security Administration. He later was a devoted teacher and bus driver at Kilgore, Pine Tree, and Tyler Independent School Districts and Azleway Boys Ranch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, step-fathers Johnny “Nurse” Rossum and Lawrence Morrow, and a sister, Carolyn Phillips.

He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters Kimberly Wells-Jones and her husband David of Longview, Kiani Spellbring of Livingston, SSgt Billie J. Foster and husband Brooks of Silver Springs, Md., and Audrey Portley of Gladewater; sons, Larry Polley and his wife Angela of Longview and Kirby Portley and his wife Lauren of Austin; sisters, Barbara Foreman Mixon, Emma Dale McGree, Brenda Joyce Cooper, all of Dallas; brothers, Richard Earl Foreman, Marvin Foreman and Victor Foreman, all of Dallas; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
