With spring approaching, the March meeting of Civic Garden Club provided motivation to get yards and gardens underway. With members donating plants, flowers and gardening-related items, the annual auction meeting is also a primary fund raiser for the club.
Prior to the auction, President Diana Ponder conducted the business meeting with Martha Clark giving the invocation. Guests were welcomed and hostesses Pam DeCeault, Patty Sanders, and Alma Nell Farmer were thanked for providing the refreshments.
Guest Nita Beale, Texas Garden Club District III Director, was invited to report on the District III Spring Convention in Center, Texas, recently. She informed members that scholarships, awards, and workshops are projects that are in progress on the district level.
Marian Richardson gave the treasurer’s report and also announced that member David Reeves will conduct a plant sale Saturday, March 18. Proceeds from this event will benefit continued restoration of the Dean-Keener-Crim Home, a project of the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation.
Following the business session, Rita Thompson, assisted by Erin Gore and Martha Clark, conducted the auction. The wide variety of auction items provided lively bidding and friendly exchanges among members.
Attending were Martha Clark, Pam DeCeault, Alma Nell Farmer, Kim Gore, Erin Gore, Pam Horton, Betty Hren, Betty Jeter, Faye King, Betty Lee, Marilyn Martin, Diana Ponder, Louise Raby, Marian Richardson, Darlene Sanders, Patty Sanders, Lavada Thomas, Rita Thompson, Judy Wilkins, and guests, Nita Beale, Joy Jordan, and Vicki Hodges.
