KSA meetings, registration upcoming
There will be a general meeting of the Kilgore Soccer Association and any and all interested parties are invited to attend. The meeting will be Saturday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at the Lions Club building downtown.
Sign-up for the KSA’s fall season will be conducted on July 22 and July 29, then again on Aug. 5 and Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on each of those days at the KSA soccer fields just off of Highway 135, near the industrial area.
There will be a coaches meeting on Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Lions Club.
Gaston tournament June 24
The 10th annual scholarship golf tournament, a four-man scramble in honor of Terri Irick, is set for Saturday, June 24, beginning at 8 a.m., at Longview Country Club (Buster’s) at 3275 Highway 42, about five miles north of Kilgore. The tournament is also a fundraiser for the Gaston Museum.
The prize for this year’s hole-in-one contest is a trip to next year’s Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga., an eight-day, seven-night trip that includes airfare, lodging, and admission to all four rounds of the Masters, as well as the practice round, and $1,500 in spending money. Other prizes include $250 gift cards to Dick’s Sporting Goods, an iPad Mini and golf travel bags. There are also prizes for closest to the pin and the longest drive contests.
As far as the tournament, the first-place team will win $200; second place will win $100; and third, $80. Entry fees are $200 per team, or $50 for an individual.

The Gaston Museum, located in Joinerville, is dedicated to life in the East Texas oil patch before and after the discovery well. Hoberecht boys camp July 10-13
Kilgore College men’s basketball coach Brian Hoberecht will host his annual basketball camp for boys ages five through 17 on July 10-13 at Masters Gymnasium at the KC campus.
Registration that first day will be at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration (through June 30) is $100. After that, it’s $120. In addition to instruction, that includes a camp ball, a T-shirt, awards and lunch each day of camp.
There will also be a concession stand open during break times, with snacks and drinks available at a low price.
Family is invited to the end-of-camp game on the final day, Thursday, July 13, at 3:30 p.m. An awards presentation will follow.
