Thomas, Goodwyn in all-star game today

Kilgore High School senior Seth Thomas helped get the Bulldogs back to the playoffs, and he’ll represent the Bulldogs on the basketball court one more time tonight at Floyd Wagstaff Gymnasium in Tyler, playing in the 16th annual Azalea Orthopedics All-Star Basketball Classic.

Sabine’s Elyan Goodwyn, who contributed big-time to the Cardinals’ District 16-3A championship and a good playoff run, is in the mix, too – in fact, Thomas and Goodwyn are teammates for the East all-stars.

Shelbyville’s David Schmitt will be their coach, and Palestine’s J.J. Johnson will coach the West, with players from schools like John Tyler, Brook Hill, Lindale and Crandall.

No Kilgore-area players are involved in the girls all-star game, which will tip off at 5:30. The boys will play right after, about 7. Tickets are $6 each for adults, $3 each for students; there’s no admission for kids under five years old. Proceeds go to the Bethesda Clinic.

Doors open at 5 p.m.

Kilgore College’s Texas-Sized Fundraiser April 27

Kilgore College’s annual Texas-Sized Fundraiser – to raise money for the college’s athletic department – is set for Saturday, April 27, at the Longview Exhibit Building at the Longview Fairgrounds. It’ll start at 6 p.m.

It’s the second annual event; last year’s was quite successful, and KC athletes benefitted greatly. An event ticket for $50 includes dinner and drinks, a live auction, silent auction, live band, and armadillo races.

The jockeys for the races will be a few Kilgore-area “celebrities.” There will also be bingo, fun to play at an additional cost, and there will be a raffle for a Henry American Oilmen Tribute Edition .44 Magnum .44Spl capacity, donated by Mike Clements.

Tickets for the gun raffle are $10 each, and can be purchased by contacting Kristan Propes (see below). The raffle will be the night of the fundraiser, but you don’t have to be present to win.

Sponsorships and table sponsorships are still available. Sponsorships range from Red (table sponsor) up to Star of Texas, which, among other things, includes two VIP tables for eight, tickets to all KC sports events next year, plus sponsorship of all football, basketball and softball venues, and sponsorship (and entry) at the hall of fame golf tournament this fall.

For more information on the event, or to inquire about sponsorships, contact KC athletic director Jimmy Rieves at (903) 988-7536, or Kristan Propes at (903) 988-7537. E-mail either of them at jrieves@kilgore.edu or kpropes@kilgore.edu.
