The University of Texas at Arlington this week announced a local scholarship recipient for the 2017-18 academic year.
According to the school, Kilgore’s Seth Ballenger and other students “join the largest and most academically accomplished incoming freshman class in UTA’s history.”
Ballenger received the Maverick Academic Scholarship, as did Henderson’s Madeleine Eby and Hannah Francisco. Three UTA students from Longview also received the award: Paul Ryan, Chakirra Seastrunk and Vianca Villacorta.
“UTA is a Carnegie Research-1 institution with a global enrollment in excess of 58,000 and has academic programs across all eight of its schools and colleges ranked among the best by U.S. News & World Report,” the school reported. “As the third largest producer of college graduates in Texas, UTA is serving tomorrow’s workforce needs by bridging access and excellence. In 2017, U.S. News ranked UTA as having the second lowest average student debt in the nation and the lowest in Texas.”
