A 51-year-old Longview man died Friday afternoon, falling from a moving vehicle on State Hwy. 42 North near River Road.
The Gregg County Sheriff’s Office later identified the victim as Jerry Wayne Milam of Longview.
Authorities have not released how many others were in the vehicle and few other details. The vehicle’s occupants stayed on scene, officials report, and were interviewed in the course of the investigation.
According to GCSO, deputies were dispatched to the 3800 block of Hwy. 42 at 2:36 p.m. Feb. 10.
“Upon arrival deputies observed a male subject that was unresponsive,” Cpl. Josh Tubb reported. “Champion EMS arrived on scene and advised that he was deceased. A death investigation ensued and the scene was handed over" to GCSO's Criminal Investigations Division.”
That’s standard operating procedure, Tubb said Monday: CID handles investigations into unattended deaths, those in which medical personnel were not on scene. The case is currently a death investigation, not a criminal incident.
The vehicle did not leave the scene, he confirmed.
“It stayed and all occupants were ID’d and interviewed,” Tubb added.
There are no other details available: an active investigation, Tubb declined to release any additional facts.
