New Kilgore Taste Off benefits Relay for Life efforts Jan. 15

With 10 restaurants on tap, local Relay for Life volunteers will have a wide range of Kilgore cuisine waiting for supporters during Monday’s ‘taste off’ benefit.

The American Cancer Society fundraisers are getting their 2018 campaign underway through next week’s event at First Baptist Church of Kilgore Jan. 15.

As of the Relay for Life planners’ Monday night meeting, restaurants participating in the Kilgore Taste Off include The Back Porch, Burrito Shop, The Catch, Chili’s, Circle Cafe, Downtown D’Lites, Johnny Ozarks, Las Tejanitas, The Pumphouse and Arabella Kitchen.

The event runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 501 E. North St., and guests’ tickets will include a ballot to vote on a favorite food sample from the various kitchens.

Admission for visitors is $10 per plate. All proceeds benefit fundraising for American Cancer Society through RFL Gregg County, created recently in the merger of Longview Relay efforts into Kilgore’s activities.

Relay’s grassroots fundraising teams will be hosting campaign events throughout the year while the primary RFL organization here plans a handful of key events: in addition to the Jan. 15 Taste Off, RFL Gregg County’s volunteers are planning a Survivor/Caregiver Dinner later in the spring as well as a Kilgore Glow Fest April 21.
