You might say Sabine High School’s cross-country teams did pretty well at the District 16-3A meet on Wednesday at LeTourneau University. You’d be right.
The Sabine boys CC squad is a championship team for a third straight year, lifted by David Robinson, who finished in first place, and the Sabine girls will also go to the regional meet. That will be in Grand Prairie on Monday, Oct. 22.
The Cardinals got a great run from Robinson, who finished the 3.1-mile run in 17 minutes, 45 seconds. Coach Jason Heffner’s Cardinals claimed four of the top five spots. Junior Saniel Acosta was second overall (18:28), and freshman Caleb Cox was fourth (19:40). Wesley McGarity was fifth and Alex Barrios was 11th. Trenton Ausmus was 13th and Eddie Rosas, 25th, respectively.
Macy Rutland was the top finisher for the Sabine girls – she was fifth overall in the two-mile run in 13:17. Sarah Webb was in 16th (13:50). Bethani Roper was 14th, Lesli Flores 18th and Paige Bynog, 28th.
Heffner’s junior varsity boys are also district champions. Seth Griffin was sixth, Lane Clanton seventh, Cameron Keel, ninth, Drew Shimpock 15th, Caden Loveless 16th, Hayden Sheppard 17th and Eric Bradley, 18th.
