Sabine High School’s Math/Science team brought home another slate of awards following the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association’s meet in San Antonio Saturday.

“We are now back-to-back-to-back TMSCA State champions,” math coach Keith Taylor said. “We had 24 kids here giving up three days of Spring Break to compete. They represented us well.”

Sabine’s students earned 1st Place Team in three categories – Number Sense, Calculator and Math – plus 2nd Place Team in Science.

In individual competitions, “We had seven 1st Place winners,” Taylor noted, plus four 2nd Place students, seven 3rd Place, four 4th Place and 14 others in Places 5th through 9th. “They also do a ‘Top Gun’ which is for the highest cumulative score by an individual per grade level.”

Among the six Texas seniors who won Top Gun scholarships, Sabine’s Scottie Taylor won first and MaKenzie Williams placed sixth.

“Maddie Horton was the overall winner for 9th grade in Top Gun.”
