Sabine High School powerlifting standout Erika Lowry is about to represent her athletic department on the highest stage of the sport, in the state.
Lowry is headed to the powerlifting state meet next weekend, March 16=17, at the Extraco Event Center in Waco. Officially, it’s the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s state meet.
Lowry qualified for state with an impressive performance at the regional meet in Fairfield, a total of 900 pounds. She competed in the 220-pound weight class. Erika had a squat of 350, a bench press of 200, and a deadlift of 350, for that 900-pound total.
Her performance at the Region 3, Division 3 meet was her best of the year. Her previous best was back at Troup’s Tiger Invitational, 835 pounds, on Feb. 17. She also competed in a meet at Chapel Hill (815 pounds), Sabine’s own Bo Bates Invitational (805 pounds), and the Lindale Invitational (765 pounds), doing increasingly better with each meet.
The best part? Erika is just a sophomore, and might decide to make the state meet a frequent destination.
