SISD foundation event will add to $30,000 kick-off

Sabine ISD’s Education Foundation is fully-established, officially registered with the Internal Revenue Service and counting down to its first large-scale fundraiser.

Granted, the organization is already sitting on about $30,000 thanks to an initial funding effort on-campus and in a grassroots outreach to community members.

“Just the staff has raised almost $14,000,” SISD Supt. Stacey Bryce told school board members Monday evening, making a final push to draw guests to Saturday night’s ‘Rockin’ the Foundation’ fundraising event: “There has been a lot of work and a lot of time put into this.

“The foundation is going to be a remarkable program for our district, for our teachers and for our students especially.”

Sabine High School won the on-campus collection, fully-funded within about half-an-hour, Bryce joked.

“They had 100 percent right-quick. We’re still trying to reach 100 percent at our other campuses,” he said, crediting the prize of a relaxed staff dress code – jeans for a week – with helping push the effort. “They’ll do anything for that.”

SISD trustee Paul Franklin praised the staff members’ contributions, encouraging his fellow board members to follow the example by donating auction items and cash to the weekend fundraiser.

“The teaching staff has reached deep in their pockets,” he said. “It wouldn’t hurt us to do the same thing.”

Rockin’ the Foundation is set for 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday night at 4B Farms (12274 CR 370 in Winona). Gates open at 6 p.m. with a steak dinner, an auction and live music featuring Dagnabbit on tap.

Limited to supporters 21-and-over, tickets to the event cost $60 per couple and $35 for an individual seat.

Already, board president Tony Raymond said, the event has exceeded organizers’ early expectations. They’ll be setting up 40 tables, space for 320 people, with 23 confirmed table sponsorships in addition to other tickets sold so-far.

“The event grew well-beyond what we expected,” he added. “It’s live music, lots of games are going to be played, there’s a dance floor – it’s a night out.”
