Fleeing suspect crashes motorbike into USPS truck

A DPS pursuit of a man on a motorbike ended abruptly Thursday afternoon when the fleeing suspect reportedly cut through a parking lot and crashed into the side of a mail carrier's vehicle on Commerce Street.

The rider was injured but not seriously, according to sources on the scene in downtown Kilgore. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital shortly after 3 p.m. and will likely face multiple charges upon his release, including for drug possession.

Not all the details are currently available: the Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation after a DPS Trooper tried to stop the suspect as he was reportedly speeding on Hwy. 135 on a dual-sport motorcycle earlier in the afternoon.

The suspect fled and ultimately turned onto Gladewater Street, the chase continuing along several nearby roads. Racing over the railroad tracks downtown at the Danville crossing, he reportedly cut-through the parking lot of Kilgore Feed and struck a passing United States Postal Service employee's vehicle.

According to one source on scene, the suspect was reportedly carrying an unspecified amount of methamphetamine when he was apprehended.
