Local members of Vietnam Veterans of America will host their 6th annual William Perkins Chapter 987 Auto & Cycle Show Saturday, April 28, at Kilgore City Park.

An Army veteran, Perkins was a dedicated advocate for his fellow vets through his death in September 2013. The East Texas native served in Vietnam and continued serving after returning home, including as commander of VFW Post 1183 and as president of VVA Chapter 987.

Registration is $25 per entry and begins at 8 a.m. April 28 at the park before the show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The veterans’ annual auction will begin at 1 p.m. followed by awards from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s honors will include the Top 25 (Classic & Street Rods Over All), the Top 5 Rat Rods, Top 5 1991-2018 Models, Top 3 Motorcycles, Top 3 Military Vehicles and the Best VVA 987 member entry in addition to People’s Choice, Kids Choice and sponsor awards as well as Best of Show.

The first 100 entries will receive a free T-shirt, and one entrant will win a $100 giveaway. The hosts will also raise funds through a 50/50 pot, and there will be a slew of door prizes awarded throughout the event.

The organizers are also recruiting merchandise vendors and concessions to serve guests during the annual show – for vendor information or to sign up as a sponsor, contact Dewayne Pullen (903-235-0219) or JD Murphy (903-946-0868).
