Funeral services for Willie Gene Mumphrey, 67, of Kilgore will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at New Holy Chapel Church of God in Christ with Elder Edward Pratt and Minister Kevin Mumphrey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.
Willie was born to David Mumphrey Sr. and Julie Mae Brittain in Overton on Saturday, November 19, 1949 and died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.
Willie was a member of Holy Chapel Church of God in Christ from an early age and attended until his health failed.
He received his education at North Chapel Schools and graduated from Sabine High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, David Mumphrey Jr., Larry Mumphrey, and Larry Akin, and a son, Christopher Mumphrey.
He remains in the hearts of his wife, Karen Mumphrey of Kilgore; daughter, Melissa Ann Mumphrey of Kilgore; three sons, Anthony Mumphrey, Jemaine Mumphrey and Willie Mumphrey Jr., all of Kilgore; mother, Mamie Mumphrey of Tyler; sisters, Louise Medford and husband F. D. of Henderson, Debra Smith and husband Mark of Dallas, Margaret Benton and husband Gary of Tyler; brothers, Alvin Akin of Kilgore, Johnny Mumphrey and wife Vickie of Dallas, and Minister Kevin Mumphrey and wife Theressa of Tyler; two grandsons, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be Friday, November 3, from noon until 7 p.m. at Victory Funeral Services. There will be no wake.
