It’s been a little more than a year since a Kilgore woman was shot to death outside her apartment on New Year’s Eve. On the run since Dec. 31, 2017, the lone suspect behind the slaying has been captured in Indiana.
Tracy Lynn Reedy was killed shortly after 11 p.m. that night in a parking area outside of her quadplex at 1910 Meadowgreen Dr. Officers found the 50-year-old on the sidewalk, dead from a gunshot to the head and other wounds.
Dwight Patrick Scott was soon ID’d as the gunman – Reedy’s boyfriend, the 52-year-old Kilgore native reportedly fled the scene of the shooting and, not long after, East Texas and the state.
Investigators looked to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and beyond to Illinois, where Scott reportedly had ties to the Chicago area along with Gary, Indiana, nearby Portage and Hammond. On Jan. 5, 2018, detectives secured a murder warrant for Scott signed by 188th District Judge David Brabham, pursuing full extradition upon his capture with bond pre-set at $1 million.
Scott was reportedly arrested Tuesday following a tip to law enforcement. U.S. Marshals captured him in Gary, and he’s currently incarcerated in Indiana, awaiting extradition back to East Texas and Kilgore.
Gregg County Crimestoppers set an initial $1,000 reward for information leading to Scott’s arrest and doubled the amount by mid-year.
According to investigators, Reedy was killed following a domestic issue, described as a “lover’s quarrel.” Cell phone records indicate the woman received a “Happy New Year” call from a former boyfriend, sparking an argument between Reedy and Scott.
At different points in the evening, witnesses reported loud noises coming from the apartment as well as the sounds of fighting. In the midst of the argument, one neighbor says, Reedy asked for help caring for her grandson. (The child was found safe inside the apartment later that night.)
Another witness reportedly saw Scott packing his belongings ahead of the shooting.
Gunshots were called in to emergency dispatchers about 11:22 p.m. that night, and Reedy lay facedown on the pavement.
Following the shooting, Scott allegedly fled the Meadow Green Apartment Complex in a dark-colored Lincoln MKZ, and early tips pointed detectives to the Chicago Metropolitan area.
